Standards for Elephant Care

 

Transportation

bulletTruck should be safe (as defined by U.S. or State D.O.T. regulations) and driven by a licensed C.D.L. driver who has a working knowledge with elephants.
bulletTruck should be kept clean.
bulletIf temperature exceeds 85 degrees in the trailer, air conditioning should be turned on.

On Location

bulletElephant should be kept clean.
bulletPen must be kept clean
bulletShade to be provided for elephants, unless a cool day and sunshine is desired. (Elephants are from a very warm climate and prefer heat to cold).
bulletFeed should be of good quality, free of mold, not alfalfa and free of vermin.
bulletThere should always be qualified handler parked in trailer next to elephants, or on watch over elephants.
bulletFeet need to be trimmed and in good shape.
bulletSkin should be brushed and elephants washed daily unless cold weather prevails.

Our attitude towards the elephants should be one of protector and servant, not conqueror.
