Videographer Brian Caserio just released the first of its
kind elephant seal video. The northern elephant seal (mirounga
angustirostris) challenges our imagination with its extreme
adaptations. Leading what amounts to a double life, they spend
most of their time hundreds of miles out to sea continually
diving thousands of feet below the surface in a solitary
search for food. But twice a year each animal returns to
specific haul out areas where they congregate and socialize in
huge numbers. Here they give birth, nurse, breed, and molt
while fasting for up to three months at a time.
