Make
the scene as all of Cambria turns out to Shamel Park; it's the place to be
don't 'cha know! Come early to collect your driftwood or you won't stand a
chance of winning the 'bonfire contest'. A great opportunity for
single girls to meet young eligible firemen.
This
annual event is hosted by our American Legion Post No. 432. You may have
noticed the collection cans strategically placed around the community in
the traditional fund raising effort.
Fog
permitting you will experience quite a show. Seriously, the troops have
been getting the hang of putting on a good show here. Granted it always
hasn't been up to snuff, last year showed tremendous improvement in the
quantity, quality and rhythm of explosions. Even on a foggy night we get
some great 'fog glows'.
Be advised that the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary has gotten
into the act and has been doing their best to stop this 200 year old
tradition. Yup, you guessed it; we don't want to scare the fish with loud
bangs. Prepare your children for the disappointment as the MBNM has
squashed the pre show Big Bang intro. Many are surprised to
learn that the marine sanctuary southern limit is just off of Moonstone
Beach.
The fireworks aren't the only entertainment;
If none of this works for you then you will want to take part in ethnic tribal dances around bonfires that are
bordering on out of control. BYOFE (Bring your own fire extinguisher).
Good luck figuring what tribe you belong to.
