Tina

When I was in the fifth grade I let a good friend down. It was one beautiful spring day, the day was going perfectly. I got a great grade on my math test and there were five minutes before the bell was going to ring. I was excited because in a week or so my friend Tina was going to come over, and also when I get good grades on any of my tests, I get to go to dinner and a movie of my choice. Finally the bell rang. I gathered my stuff to go to practice and play some soccer for about twenty minutes until my Morn came. I played soccer for awhile, but then I saw a group of my friends, so I walked over to them while kicking the soccer ball.

As I walked nearer and noticed they were teasing Tina and making fun of her. I
went along with all of the little remarks; she's a little too tall, her legs are too skinny, her feet are too big, her eyes are too small......After the "her eyes are too small" she burst into tears, and ran away. Just then my Morn pulled up and I had to leave. I saw the last glimpse of her running into the bathroom, and chills ran up my spine. The next day she was not at school, nor the next, so finally about a week later the day she was supposed to come over rolled around. She wasn't at school, but when I got home, there was a message on my machine from her which said she was sick. Well I felt really bad she was that sick so I decided to call her and just say 'hi'.

The phone rang three times before her Morn picked it up, I said hi and that I was sorry that Tina was sick and that I hoped that she would get better soon. There was a short silence and then her morn asked, "What are you talking about"? Then I told her about the answering machine message, and she replied that Tina wasn't sick but being home schooled because of the endless teasing at school. I could not speak! Then a thought flashed through my mind, I was teasing her! I was!

I have not seen Tina in two whole years now, I do not know if she still lives in
Cambria, or if she has any friends now. If I had consulted the four way test she might still be going to school with me, I might still be her best friend!
Half the things they said to her were not true!
But I went along with it!
It was not fair to her!
But I went along with it!
It did not build good will and it certainly ruined friendships!
But I went along with it!
It positively was not beneficial
But I went along with it!
