P&O Cruises to host largest wedding ceremony at sea – Travel Weekly

P&O Cruises Australia is hosting the largest wedding ceremony ever on a cruise ship, celebrating same-sex, gender-diverse and LGBTQIA+ supporters/allies couples.

And starting today, the cruise line is inviting couples to enter to win one of ten places aboard its first Pride cruises this year, valued at more than $3,700 per couple.

Five winning couples will legally wed aboard the three-night Sydney Pride cruise on November 4, and five more will take their vows aboard the Melbourne Pride cruise on December 9.

Australian comedy character Bob Downe hosts the ceremonies and performs during the trips.

“Engaged? Well, let me help you say ‘YES’ in front of 2,500 of your closest friends, at the biggest wedding ceremony ever on a cruise ship!” said Downe.

“I will be hosting the fun as ten lucky couples – whether LGBTQIA+ or our allies – are chosen to embark on a P&O Pride cruise. Bring your family and friends for a wedding we will never forget! ”

Chris Rich, head of partnerships for P&O Cruises, said P&O Cruises previously supported legislation legalizing same-sex marriages and celebrated with the LGBTQIA+ community in Australia when she performed in November 2017.

“Over the past 2 years it has been difficult for any engaged couple to get married with COVID-19 impacting wedding plans or couples impacted by last minute cancellations/rescheduling,” Rich said.

“We are therefore delighted to be able to host weddings again and our Pride cruises are a fantastic opportunity to further extend our support to the LGBTQIA+ community in Australia.”

In addition to accommodations and meals for the winning couples aboard the Pride Cruise, the prize includes a legally binding wedding ceremony, dedicated wedding coordinator and photographer, commemorative marriage certificate, reserved group seating for 10 people the evening of boarding, a wedding cake, spa treatments and free bathrobes to take away.
