Sea views, sea views and more great sea views while you relax in this beautiful Croatian hotel.

Panoramic windows stretch from floor to ceiling and it’s hard not to be struck by the calm, tranquil and serene surroundings from the start.

Built in 1976, it suffered damage during the Balkan conflict in the 90s, but was taken over by the Valamar group in 2004. Ten years later, it was completely renovated to become its flagship five-star property in Dubrovnik .

The real beauty of this hotel is its location, just above the beach on the Babin Kuk peninsula. Each of its 292 rooms spread over eight floors offers views of the Adriatic, with ample balconies to sit and soak in.

The rooms are spacious, and a few steps separating the bedroom from a lower-level living room with a sofa and coffee table almost make it feel like an apartment. The walls are adorned with works by Croatian and international artists, as well as canvas pictures of Dubrovnik’s most famous sights.

There are three on-site restaurants, each offering individual dining experiences. If you are looking for a fine dining evening, Momenti is the perfect place to enjoy four courses of gourmet cuisine. The chefs offer you a menu of carefully selected Croatian and international dishes, accompanied by a selection of local wines.

Get ready to try dishes you’ve probably never heard of before, like the delicious Red Porgy Fish Fillet.

You’ll find a slightly more laid-back atmosphere at the upscale buffet restaurant, where you can watch dishes being prepared and sample assorted desserts. Help yourself to breakfast and dinner and enjoy the view from the terrace of the Elaphite Islands.

You will be transported to a relaxing environment in its spa and wellness area, equipped with an infrared sauna, a Finnish sauna and a steam bath. Various treatments are on offer – I opted for the de-stress massage, while pedicures, manicures and wax appointments are also available.

The hotel’s 200-meter-wide pebbly Relax Beach is an attractive sunbathing area, while a few more minutes takes you to the Coral Beach Club — it’s worth booking a sunbed for an afternoon.

Surrounded by palm trees, it has an open kitchen restaurant where you can have lunch before having a drink at the beach bar and relaxing watching the world go by (from £28, ). Both beaches are pristine and have each won a blue flag. Remaining on-site, the hotel has an outdoor pool on a sun terrace overlooking the sea, as well as a heated indoor pool.
