Sea Wall’s critically acclaimed first queer production will premiere at the Turner Contemporary in collaboration with Margate Pride tonight (August 10).

Written by Simon Stephens Award winner Olivier and Tony (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, National Theatre; Birdland, Royal Court Theatre), Sea Wall is brought to life by a female-led creative team over a performance only.

Set against the British coast, Sea Wall is a story of heartbreak, faith, hope and love. Audiences can experience this deeply moving monologue as the sun sets over Margate Pride and Alex’s story begins.

Performed by multi-award nominated artist Laura Wyatt O’Keeffe (Arrival, New Wimbledon Theater & UK Tour), Terra Verunt (International Arts Festival Malta) and directed by Sophie Drake (Patriots, Almeida Theatre; Hamlet & The Cherry Orchard, Theater Royal Windsor), the heartbreaking play is being reimagined as a queer production for the first time. It tells the story of Alex, devoted wife to Helen and mom to Lucy, as she navigates life after a devastating loss.

Playwright Simon Stephens said: “Of all my plays, Sea Wall is closest to my heart and to my life. It is a production that treats my piece with great care and love. It means a lot to see it come to life in such beautiful surroundings.
