Wisbech sea cadets join the Fenland branch of the Royal Society of St George for a big day

Members of the Royal Society of St George Fenland Branch and Wisbech Sea Cadets celebrated St George’s Day by visiting the Cenotaph in London.

Twenty-five cadets and adult instructors traveled to the capital to take part in the St. George’s Day Cadet Parade in Whitehall.

Sea cadets from Wisbech joined other sea cadet units from London, as well as air and army cadets to march to the Cenotaph, where they trained to a Remembrance service at 11 a.m.

The parade and service of remembrance is organized and facilitated by the national office of the Royal Society of St George, with members of the society traveling from all parts of the country to participate. During the Service of Remembrance, wreaths were laid by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, President of the Royal Society of St George, Joanna Cadman, and members of the Royal Society of St George branch.

Unit President Chris Black laid the wreath on behalf of the Wisbech Sea Cadets and, on behalf of the Fenland Branch of the Royal Society of St George, Branch President Brian Kierman.

Also representing the Fenland branch of the society, branch standard bearer Aubrey Smith and his wife Rosemary, the Reverend Chaplain David Addington, Roy and Liz McManus, Stephen and Jayne Phillips, Marion Levitt and Sue Clarke, and the wives of the presidents of the two organizations Mary Kierman and Rebecca Black.

After the parade and wreath laying at the Cenotaph, members of the Royal Society of St George laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey, followed by lunch, while sea cadets and the instructors received a guided tour of London, visiting landmarks such as Horse Guards Parade and Buckingham Palace.

Participation in the parade was made possible by the Fenland Branch of the Royal Society of St George – Wisbech Sea Cadet Unit joined the Fenland Branch in 2020, and through the generous support of the Fenland Cranch , money was raised to fund travel costs to London for cadets to attend the event.

Chaplain to the Wisbech Sea Cadets and also the Fenland branch of the SRSG, the Reverend David Addington helped organize and coordinate both groups with the London Events team.

Sea Cadets President Chris Black said: “We would like to thank the Fenland Branch of the Royal Society of St George and their President Brian Kierman for their support of Wisbech Sea Cadets and for helping to offer this unique opportunity for the young people of Wisbech to attend such a special event – ​​the support of outside groups like this is essential in enabling us to provide cadets with as many positive opportunities and experiences as possible.

Brian Kierman said, “I was delighted to help make this an exciting and memorable day for Sea Cadets and their instructors. »

Sea Cadets Wisbech provides opportunities for young people aged 10-18, the unit is open Tuesdays and Fridays 7-9pm and meets at Sea Cadets Unit Wisbech, 19 Sandyland, Wisbech, PE13 1NX.
